Out of Time & Space Astrology

A bit done with death. I feel this way as I mark four years this Saturday since my father's passing. And I am even more done with the fear of death (his last year he lived this way). Death cannot teach anything when we don't enjoy the life we are living now. The death of Whitney Houston (although not surprising) still affected me. My spiritual self wants to shine more, and it can do this beyond the strict organization of writing messages for each sign every week. As I've said in Capricorn's message two weeks ago, it would be a tragedy to not learn from Ms. Houston's loss. This year, 2012, is about the community. (Personally, I think the Mayans stopped counting, so I have little worry about the world ending.) In the spirit of accessing a more relational dimension, for this year I will be experimenting with new structures of disseminating information. Know that sometimes I will combine your personal message under your sign's element (this week Cancer and Scorpio share one message). I would enjoy any constructive feedback.

I will write this centered around the four elements (fire, earth, air and water). How synchronistic is it that our popular culture has given us five political candidates that span these four elements? Read below to see who is your Pop Culture Energetic Representative (PCER).

Please note: I do not seek to turn this column into a political debate on who's in the bubble (hello, Mr. Maher) and who is not. Actually, I think there's too much money influencing our entire political process (freaking Citizens United decision). I want you to know how each element speaks a different language (as does each candidate).

Because the Sun is moving through the water sign of Pisces, I will begin with this soulful and feeling element.

Pisces, February 19-March 19, adapting feeling
This week's Pop Culture Energetic Representative: Mitt Romney (Pisces)

"Let your will take place on Earth, as it is in heaven" is a common prayer found in the New Testament. What's in the skies ... could it be, planets? Could they represent a higher will in action? I will talk about planetary energies and common-sense connections beyond our political theater. But I will offer a different perspective. Two fish swimming in opposite directions but connected by a single cord is the symbol that represents Pisces. And fish outside of water flop. Our well-known flip-flopper is Piscean Mitt Romney. As an adaptable water sign, you take your shape from the environment in which you find yourself. It can make you seem fake when you do not follow higher principles or guidance. This upcoming week, you have an excellent planetary marker to settle your anxieties into losing your abstractions in order to become more real and accessible. Yours is a transpersonal sign, which means you must learn to be emotionally connected to those beyond your immediate family or clan.

Cancer, June 21-July 22, initiating feeling
Scorpio, October 23-November 21, concentrating feeling

For Cancer and Scorpio, you are learning to value those of your family of origin (especially you, Cancer). When you accept what you were given (or not) in early childhood, you begin to love from an accepting and absolute motive. Scorpio is closer to wanting to ascertain the secrets to life and death, but you, Cancer, have an unerring ability to know how to make everyone around you feel comfortable as they are living. Therefore, approximately three months after Thanksgiving, your soul must initiate scenarios that you "Cherish a Senior." Theoretically, our elders are closer to leaving us on this physical plane. Place a dear price on the time we have left with all those we love, no matter what their age may be. If your elders have aged but without the wisdom, say a prayer, light a candle or anything symbolic that lets their higher selves know you've released them to find their own path. As I am fond of saying, "next life!" When your expansive self becomes aware and you live from the perspective of soul, you can see your relationships throughout the eons. Living unattached to outcome aids in releasing pettiness. More joy is the result.

Fire Element
This week's Pop Culture Energetic Representative: President Barack Obama (Leo)

Aries, March 20-April 19, initiating spiritual

Your best self happens when you are fully aware of yourself in each moment. It is your infectious enthusiasm and vibe that get us interested in what interests you. Use this weekend to reassess your body and soul connection, particularly as it relates to your work and healing. Did you know that more Japanese men have heart attacks on Monday mornings? Enjoy your co-workers? If not, your health is more likely to suffer. I know that no matter how much yoga I practice, the atmosphere at my office can take its toll. Knowledge means little without realistic application, so it may turn into wisdom. Be wise, strategize. Do not simply react. And definitely do not react out of anger or pain like some wounded animal. Use your head, reflect. Your time to maturely respond to hard-to-manage co-workers is coming (around mid-April).

Leo, July 23-August 22, concentrating spiritual

Yes, it would seem that your Pop Culture Energetic Representative (Mr. President) has talked with Stella and gotten his groove back. I tell anyone who's willing to listen with an open mind and heart that you were born to learn courage, particularly in interpersonal relationships. Sure, in business you can be all business, in love ... not so much. Re-evaluate what and who are really of value to you. How do you spend your energy and money on those closest to you? Freely, or do you count the cost? Take a page out of our president's book. Call out those who have been misrepresenting you. After all, you may be sleeping with the enemy or working with one. If you check your more self-interested motives at the door, you can trust events will work out in your favor.

Sagittarius, November 22-December 21, adapting fall

It is all about how you manage what you own. Squander your resources at your peril. Sounds dramatic, I know. But at times, the drama knob has to be at full blast for you to hear how much you've given in direct proportion to how insecure you are about whether you are loved enough. It won't ever be enough love if you keep monitoring what is given back to you. Relax, breathe. Hell, freaking exhale around those who ask for nothing but are willing to receive what you give from a free and open spirit. After all, that's what attracted us in the first place. Next week rocks ... in a good way!

Earth Element
This week's Pop Culture Energetic Representatives: Rick Santorum (Taurus) & Ron Paul (Virgo)

Taurus, April 20-May 20, concentrating earth (physical)

The Earth Element Republican candidates are Taurus Rick Santorum and Virgo Ron Paul. Remember, I am discussing energy and how it affects their theatrical projections. Taurus' sexuality is connected to the hormonal aspect of reproduction (goes a long way to explaining Santorum's obsession with birth control and sex). Let's face it, there are some Taurus men who'd like nothing more than to keep women barefoot and pregnant. My mother (Taurus) used to say about my father (Taurus): If he could reproduce the children, he would (and that he was most kind while she was pregnant). More to the point, I'd like to see Mr. Santorum's Constitutional Law grades. Sounds like someone who didn't distinguish himself in this arena. He's trying to conflate freedom from religion with freedom to practice your religion. Rigidity, thy name is Taurus. To be fair, each of the earth signs can be narrow-minded. It depends on the vision they see from the preceding fire sign. It is important for the next several days that you don't hold too stubborn of a position in your closest relationships, that you aren't unwilling to hear the other side. There are secret forces at work, conversations going on behind the scenes. In essence, you do not need to know everything. Instead of imagining the worse, imagine that a surprise is being planned, OK? Taurus George Clooney is another PCER (Pop Culture Energetic Representative) when he corrected Fox News at the Oscars to call Mr. Obama "President," not just Obama without any sign of respect for the office he holds.

Virgo, August 23-September 22, adapting earth (physical)

Service is as service does, and too much service can be enabling (sometimes). Yes, you can go beyond the call of duty. And you are tempted to do so at this time. However, this weekend will be a strong reference point of how not to express your simmering and building resentments. Your energetic representative is Congressman Ron Paul (whom the media ignores at nearly every turn). No doubt, you can identify with not being seen for who you are but only for what you do. On Leap Day, your ruler Mercury has reached his shadow. Huh? Simply put, begin to slow your mind and actions down (he'll be moving backward from March 12 through April 4). It is important to know what you are willing to share and what you want to keep. If you are still attached to something or someone, admit it to yourself. Do not be pressured into giving away or letting go before you are ready. Virgo Cameron Diaz refused to be interviewed by Fox News at the Oscars, a secondary PCER (Pop Culture Energetic Representative), saying "Oh, no, I don't do Fox News."

Capricorn, December 22-January 20, initiating earth (physical)

I don't have a lot to say to you. Your activities and success occur in direct proportion to your mind being open to at least reviewing a new way of thinking. It is not as if you must ask "bing" for the answers, but you have to know when to cease gathering information outside of yourself. You've been given intuition for a reason. Listen to the quiet and contemplative voice within, not the authoritative voice without. Know that there's more time to accomplish your professional goal. Get your clues from Capricorn First Lady Michelle Obama. When in doubt, ask yourself, "What would Michelle do?" An inspirational font of wisdom, that's your common-sense sign at its best.

Air Element
This week's Pop Culture Energetic Representative: Newt Gingrich (Gemini)

Gemini, May 21-June 20, adapting intellectual

After we have the grounding and prosperity promised by the preceding earth signs, enter you and your light touch. Your element thrives through circulating info, creating social networks of all kinds. Your popular political example is Newt Gingrich, a Gemini. Be a lunar colony (his Moon is in farsighted and expansive Sagittarius) or an anti-Kenyan rant against our fire sign (Leo) president (he illuminates the power of provocative communication). Powerfully, I suggest to you: He who frames the issue wins the issue. With Mercury (perception, thought and communication) entering direct and confrontational Aries on March 2, you will find yourself in a number of conversations where you will be playing the role of conscience for the family, group or co-workers.

Libra, September 23-October 22, initiating intellectual

The sign of the peacemaker and mediator envisions a life of getting over differences. So as I inform all of my heterosexual allies and friends, do not ask others if they are for same-sex marriage, because it's easier to give a negative answer to that. Instead, ask those close-minded others if they are for marriage equality. It is difficult to be against equality. With your ruling planet Venus moving into her other home sign of Taurus next week, you are feeling stronger regarding your principles and your advocacy of them. So get out there and form new alliances. Do not sit back and wait to see who comes to you. Cease fearing rejection. Your life is not like middle school when you waited for someone else to get on the dance floor first. Set the trend you want to see in the world. That means challenging the status quo and empty traditions.

Aquarius, January 20-February 18, concentrating intellectual

Rabble-rouser and iconoclast, that's you. Unless a cult has brainwashed you, there is very little authority you won't challenge. You play the role of conscience. It begins within your family, taking on the role of sociological arbiter. You were the first one on your block to befriend the "other." Your gifts include an ability to see beyond the physical trappings that keep us mired in fearful groups or clans. You will discuss many of the hot-button issues within popular culture. How many times do you have to be threatened with being cast out from the congregational hearth? These misguided sentiments only increase your resolve for getting to truth, no matter how disconcerting to those closest to you. After March 5, loving Venus gives you a green light to slow down and enjoy your private life, falling in love with being at home. Simple pleasures win the day.

*The Rising Sign a.k.a. Ascendant represents your approach to life and the mask you wear. Read that sign as well to get additional information on what’s in store this week.
