The Peach Tree serves traditional Southern-style soul food — and lots of it. The place is open seven days a week (but closes early: 6 p.m. on Sunday, 7:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday), and theres a featured special every night, such as pork chops on Tuesdays, spaghetti on Fridays and barbecued ribs on Saturdays. Old standards, however, are always around: Juicy fried chicken, luscious macaroni and cheese, candied yams, and simmering collard greens in a slightly bitter broth perfect for sopping up with a slab of cornbread. A big pan of lattice-crust peach cobbler or a heavenly bread pudding waits at the end of the meal. — Charles Ferruzza
