Perfect Fit

Things are most ideal when they're custom-made. That's the concept behind Susan Wiegand's shop, Ideal Garment (4518 Troost, 816-206-6837). The designer specializes in personally tailored, simple, elegant yet comfortable creations — skirts, tops, hats, underwear. She also sells handmade scarves and other items that can be worn right out of the store. The thing is, if you're not familiar with Ideal Garment, you may not realize it's there — on the first floor of a building that Wiegand shares with decoupage artist Durwin Rice. "Everybody who manages to make their way here is so happy," Wiegand says. "They can shop and shop and shop, but there are so few figures that are served by the manufacturing industry and Main Street shops." Let Wiegand take your measurements tonight — or just score some after-Christmas deals. The store will be open until 10 p.m., and refreshments will be served. Or shop online and support urban renewal; see blackskirtinitiative.com.
