Perfection

Artopia. Say it again: artopia. A combination of art and utopia, the little word suggests a heaven of free expression, a place where the aesthetic reigns supreme. Now, close your eyes and think about what's in your artopia. You're totally picturing belly dancers, Brazilian dancers and fashion models. And you're hearing the strains of some great local music right now, aren't you? Well, you're in luck because that pretty much sums up The Pitch's Artopia, happening from 7 to 11 tonight at Screenland (1656 Washington, 816-421-9700). The annual event features four rooms — plus a patio — of live entertainment, including a fashion show from the Bunker, Donna's Dress Shop and Seduzione Leggs and performances by Brandon Draper, Hearts of Darkness, Funk Babies, Organic Proof, Brasil Cultura and Anahita belly dancers. Schlafly beer and Tito's Handmade Vodka will flow all night. Use them to wash down food from Blue Bird Bistro, Thomas Restaurant, Brio and M&S Grill. Oh, and we'll also be handing out $1,000 checks to four impressive and creative Kansas Citians — we call them Masterminds. (See this week's special insert.) If you didn't get your tickets in advance at pitch.com/artopia, admission is $25 at the door and includes everything. How's that for an ideal night out?
