Kansas City's Emily Henson shoots photos (sometimes for The Pitch) that are urban and moody, often mysterious and sweetly composed. Take "My Mother," a shot from her exhibit It's All Relative at Apartment B, a new experimental art space at 4124 Warwick. In this self-portrait, Henson impersonates her mother sitting in a dining nook, looking over her shoulder at the camera. It's framed with a hand-written paragraph in which Henson assumes her mother's voice: "I think it was a Thursday we got married. We drove to the lake after and I wore my dress the whole way. At night we'd go back to the cottage and drink champagne, just lay around and listen to Neil Young." In the photo series, Henson integrates herself with the stories of her family members, making their histories more personal to her. An opening reception takes place from 6 to 10 p.m., and the show runs through May 16 (by appointment). For more information, e-mail aptbgallery@gmail.com.
