The oldest restaurant on the Country Club Plaza retains its sterling reputation for fine steaks and fine service. The staff is so eager to please, in fact, that even vegetarians get special treatment from the kitchen crew, though the menu focuses completely on meat. The strips and T-bones are USDA Prime, the butter-drenched chicken breasts are bodaciously plump, and the side dishes are big enough to share. As at the other high-dollar steak joints on the Plaza, the dinner tabs can be dauntingly steep at Plaza III, but the gracious dining experience is usually worth the price. — Charles Ferruzza

I do a weekly look-in on Charles' excellent restaurant reviews, and got to thinking about Plaza III. We were only in KC for a few years, but this became one of our all-time favorite restaurants of anywhere we have lived across the country. From a great scotch & soda in the bar while we wait for a table, to the relish tray with immense cold radishes, to the sublime steaks, it is the 'real deal'. Great for a romantic dinner, a client/attorney bash, or just a good meal. My only question is how do I get Charles, Truman, Bob, and his JoCo or Ward Parkway 'lady friends with Botox' to join us?
I read that the Power & Light District is the 'new' place for high-end dining in KC. Folks, the Plaza is a setting that cannot be reproduced by any developer or urban renewal politico in modern times. (Yes, I know that the Plaza was 'the' Nichols development of its' day). Keep firing up the lights on Thanksgiving and patronizing the merchants in your faux Spanish mission gem.

Anticipating one of the best steaks ever, (my father raved about real Kansas City Strips) I was greatly disappointed, and then angry at the response to my complaint.
I could not cut the large Kansas City Strip with the very good knife they provided. Chewing this piece of leather was impossible. When I complained, they allowed me to replace it with a filet, about the size of a golf ball on steroids.
They did not offer a free dessert, or any other kind of recompense.
Considering the cost of this meal, I would never return to any of their restaurants.
Boo.
