Poppies 3

Friday, June 21, at Davey's Uptown.

It's all about give and take with Poppies 3. On the generous side, the bespectacled St. Louis-based punk-pop trio founded Artists United Through Music, an organization that holds charity concerts, works with the Easter Seals Foundation and donates part of the proceeds from every sale of Poppies 3's debut disc, Pop This, to St. Louis Food Outreach. Take-wise, the guys scored a grant in 2001 through Jim Beam's Benefiting Emerging Artists in Music, making possible Poppies 3's second record, the uncompleted but already titled Are We There Yet? (Local recipients of BEAM grants include Trucker in 2000 and Orange in 2001, and applications for the next round of free money are available at www.jimbeam.com.) Poppies 3's other spirited sponsor is Jagermeister, producer of brutal love-'em-or-hate-'em shots. This show is billed as a Jim Beam Back Room Session, so order something with Ten High in it and see what happens.
