Pork Tornado

Friday, October 25, at the Bottleneck.

Its scene blissfully defies music-industry conventions, but even the jam-band community can't resist the temptation of a garish award show. Not missing the irony, Phish's Trey Anastasio reaffirmed the band's hiatus-breaking intentions by delivering the acceptance speech for one of his two Jammys in West Side Story "Gee, Officer Krupke" style: We've tested all your patience, if you'll be tried or true/You're sick of Pork Tornado, you're sick of Vida Blue/If I would just stop talking, you would get your wish/Stop this shit and give us back our Phish. The faithful must hold out until Phish's New Year's Eve gig in New York, but drummer Jon Fishman's Pork Tornado offers the same style-defying eclecticism of its elder cousin. While shying away from expansive displays of improvisational pyrotechnics, Pork Tornado promises enough musical antics to keep phans satiated.
