Private Collection

In honor of the 75th anniversary of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, collectors Lennie and Jerry Berkowitz have contributed a collection of fine ceramics for an exhibition called Collecting With Passion: Contemporary Ceramics From the Lennie and Jerry Berkowitz Collection. The show, a master course in inspired curation and a tribute to the enthusiasms of private collectors everywhere, includes works by some of the best American ceramists, including former instructors and alumni of the Kansas City Art Institute, such as Richard Notkin. Akio Takamori, an artist who was born in Japan but spent half of his life in the United States, explores ideas of global identity with his ceramics. Ruth Duckworth, Lydia Buzio, Richard DeVore, Ah Leon, Adrian Saxe and other artists round out the exhibit, which stays on display through April 10. The museum is located at 4525 Oak. For more information, see decorative arts at nelson-atkins.org.
Wednesdays-Sundays. Starts: Dec. 15. Continues through April 10, 2010
