Professionally creative

It may seem natural to think of business and the arts as separate pursuits. But serious artists know that creative success involves a certain amount of professional savvy. During Insiders Guide to the Arts in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area: A Panel Presentation, six local people with an intimate understanding of where business and art intersect share insights on such topics as applying for grants and how to nab gallery exhibitions. A cooperative effort among the YWCA, Kaw Valley Arts and Humanities, and Kansas City Volunteer Lawyers and Accountants, the free event begins at 6 p.m. at the YWCA of Greater Kansas City (1017 North Sixth Street in Kansas City, Kansas, 913-371-1105). Panelists are multidisciplinary artist Daniel Avazpour, gallery director Holly Swangstu of Leedy-Voulkos Art Center, film director and musician Tony Ladesich, ArtsKC grants director Paul Tyler, and artistic director Anthony Magliano of Quixotic dance ensemble. A legal or financial adviser for artists also plans to be on hand.
