Break Your Necks

Landing yet another crushing blow on behalf of the Kansas City metal scene is Punchline, a veteran crew whose circle-pit-inspiring live sets have moved fans of everyone from Agnostic Front to D.R.I. to exert more energy than is usually allotted for the local openers. Break Your Necks offers seven straightforward two-minute-long rockers powered by Ryan Leach's throaty growl, a pounding drumbeat, and choppy riffs. The full-speed title track has a hardcore flavor, "American Dream" fuses the rowdy energy of a bar band with thrash, and "Garage Core" proceeds at a steady stomp-along pace. An uncompromising old-school act, Punchline reserves no space for melodies or singing (in place of shouting), which shouldn't bother its mainstream-loathing target audience.
