Restaurant Details

This barbecue joint dates back to 1964, but founder Earl Quick worked at the historic Rosedale Barbecue before he opened his namesake restaurant on Merriam Lane. Devotees love the fact that the place doesn’t seem to have aged a bit. The dining room is like a tidy rec room with paneled walls, a shiny orange linoleum floor, neon beer signs and a jukebox. And the décor isn’t the only retro component to Quick’s. In addition to really superb smoked meats, ribs and burnt ends, the Quick’s menu offers items not seen in most barbecue venues: fried chicken and catfish, a deep-fried hot dog, corn dogs and a fried bologna sandwich. Quick’s still offers table service and the waitress brings out dinners on aluminum pie pans. The signature sauce is pretty spicy, but the cooks use a “tamer” version on the burnt ends. — Charles Ferruzza
