Quixotic How-To

Perhaps you've thought, Boy, I'd really like to join Cirque du Soleil, but I'm far too clumsy and inexperienced. Also, I hate their particular brand of clown-based whimsy. I love their gravity-defying acrobatics and avant-garde dance theatrics, but my loathing of their maddening Francophone insouciance is tearing me apart! Don't fret — Quixotic Fusion has your solution. This collective of dancers, composers and aerialists is the anti-Cirque du Soleil. It still has the cool gymnastics and performance-art elements, but the edge is decidedly darker. Imagine a steam-punk carnival scored by Portishead. For you aspiring postmodern circus performers, Quixotic Fusion offers a series of workshops in its Collabo Labo at Quixotic Headquarters (2820 Cherry, 913-406-7070). Learn techniques covering aerial spinning, costume design and more, and catch performances. The event begins at 6 p.m. Admission costs $10 for adults; those 18 and younger get in free.— Gavon Laessig
