When the owners of R.A. Long’s Sawmill decided to open a bar and restaurant, they wanted to include an authentic piece of nearby Longview Farm. That explains the beautiful, 100-year-old Cyprus tongue-and-groove wood throughout, and the doors from Longview Farm’s famous stables. All this makes for a very rustic vibe, whether sitting outside on the sizable patio or inside next to the double-sided fireplace. The bar itself is cozy, perfect for sipping a glass of wine or one of R.A. Long’s signature cocktails. Longview Lemonade (house-made lemonade with sloe gin and blue curacao) and the Redbuck (vodka, amaretto, sloe gin, Southern Comfort and pineapple juice) are just a few of the local favorites.

Restaurant Details

Chef-owner Eddie Adel and his wife, Barbara Scott, deserve a hand for putting a lot of style and character into this little suburban restaurant. Because the place is located on the perimeter of the famous Longview Farm - the creation of Kansas City’s great lumber baron Robert A. Long -- Adel incorporated two stable doors and a magnificent Tiffany light fixture from the Long family’s fabled show-horse barn. His menu has plenty of character, too. Dishes range from the familiar (meatloaf, burgers, seared salmon) to the slightly fancy: pork scallopini and grilled white-corn cakes. Adel and Scott are young parents, so this neighborhood restaurant is family-friendly and extremely casual. — Charles Ferruzza
