Adjacent to a small motel, this little joint off Highway 40 is a throwback to a time when travelers and locals alike just wanted an inexpensive but home-cooked hot meal. There has been a diner on this location for decades, but cook-owner Rob Griffith is the most recent entrepreneur to clean up the tiny place and offer breakfast all day, fresh-squeezed orange juice, good coffee, solid dinner fare (pork chops, chicken-fried steak, the 21-piece fried-shrimp platter), a whole board of daily specials, and his signature burger — the "Tom Boy Sandwich": a ground-beef patty grilled medium, dipped in batter, deep-fried “to a golden crisp” and topped with grilled onions. The waitresses, who wear hot-pink T-shirts, are restaurant veterans and pros.
