A recent, very bad Discovery Channel special on the Bermuda Triangle explained the "rogue wave" phenomenon when an inexplicably large and powerful sea swell occurs in the middle of the ocean completely out of the blue as a possible reason why so many ships have disappeared in the region. We say balderdash to that, but huzzah to RogueWave the band and its college-radio chart-topper Descended Like Vultures. With such ominous nomenclature, you'd expect a full-force wall of sound, or at least something occasionally brutal, but on tracks such as "Bird on a Wire" and "Publish My Love," Rogue Wave artfully channels the mellow acoustic California pop sounds of the Beachwood Sparks and the gentle melancholy of Lou Barlow.
