This midtown taqueria is usually just called Rudys because the full name is such a tongue-twister. But for the record, Tenampa a word that dates back to the Nahtuatl language of the Aztecs is a city in the Vera Cruz region of Mexico. And since 1993, this popular restaurant has been a destination for fans of its Tijuana tacos (an airy fried-flour tortilla stuffed with grilled fish or shrimp), homemade pork tamales, pungent menudo and a plump chicken breast smothered in a rich mole sauce. On weekends, the dining rooms are packed with one of the more eclectic groups of diners youll see in the city: rich, poor, young, old, gay, straight, preppy and goth. The fare is modestly priced, and the service, though not always particularly friendly, is quick and attentive. — Charles Ferruzza
