Located in KCK’s Strawberry Hill neighborhood, Sammy’s is about as homey as bars get. Back in the mid-1940s, the owners of what eventually became Sammy’s decided to tack a bar onto their house, and friends and locals were soon at their place playing cards and drinking until dawn. The modern Sammy’s retains the cabinlike look and feel of the old house, and, more than 60 years later, many of the original regulars can still be found here. The service is friendly, the food and drink specials are cheap, and classic jukebox tunes are commonplace. All of which helped earn the place Best Neighborhood Bar -- West in The Pitch’s 2008 Best Of Kansas City issue.
