Hangar Stake

When: Second Saturday of every month, 10 a.m.

The Commemorative Air Force (CAF) has restored historical aircraft housed around the country, and the Heart of America Wing is at the old Olathe Naval Air Station, now the New Century AirCenter, at 6 Aero Plaza (159th Street and U.S. Highway 56, in New Century, Kansas, 913-907-7902). At today's Second Saturday Open Hangar Day (10 a.m.-3 p.m.), the unit's World War II museum is free, the planes are available for viewing, and helicopter rides cost $40. Then, at 4 p.m., the hangar turns back the clock to the 1950s, with a vintage-car cruise and a "hangar hop" bopped by the Benders. That part of the day costs $20. See kcghostsquadron.squarespace.com for details.
