Slam Dunk

For decades, Nebraska and Kansas faced off every year in both basketball and football but rarely played a competitive game. Nebraska dominated Kansas in football until very recently, with Nebraska fans outnumbering KU fans at routs in Lawrence. Whereas Kansas has recently met or surpassed Nebraska on the gridiron, however, Nebraska's cagers remain inferior to the ranked Jayhawks. In basketball, KU fans still view Nebraska's appearance on the Jayhawks' schedule less as a threat than as a reminder that the Cornhuskers also field a basketball team. The Jayhawks attempt to continue their dominance over the Cornhuskers today at Allen Fieldhouse (1700 Naismith Drive, Lawrence) at 2 p.m. With a loss, Nebraska fans will attempt to petition the Big 12 to add more sports until the school finds an event to assert its dominance, such as livestock shows or competitive prayer. General-admission tickets cost $45. Call 785-864-3141 for details. KU
