With the contemporary but very jolly demands of consumerism, eating and good will, the holiday season is a cardiac event waiting for the right moment to strike. Step away for a couple of hours to see the bedecked halls of the Kansas City Artists Coalition
(201 Wyandotte, 816-421-5222), where five artists are exhibiting their works and discussing them at a free reception starting at 6 p.m. Calgary artist Linda Carreiro, a painter who explores the intersections of visual art and text, presents Words Apart in the Mallin Gallery. A haunting collection of works by Kansas City painter Misha Kligman, called The Scent of Time, is on display in the Charno Gallery. And in the Underground Gallery, Linda Teeter, Shannon White and Lee Knox present Graffiti and Urban Edifice, an exhibit structured loosely around themes of cities and public art. The show runs through January 15.
