Snake Saturday

If you don't know what Snake Saturday is, then you've never spent the Saturday before St. Patrick's Day in the Northland. For 25 years now, a big ol' parade has crawled through that part of the metro on that day. This year's parade is supposed to be the biggest yet — it starts at 11 a.m. at 14th Street and Swift, travels north to Armour Road, turns east to Howell Street, then turns south and ends after crossing 18th Street. See more details at northlandfestivals.com.A little farther north, Weston's Snake Saturday calls for partying extra Irishlike. The downtown shops always stay open late there on the second Saturday of the month, but this time, some are offering discounts on anything that's green, and one — Celtic Ranch (404 Main, 816-640-2881) — is giving away free Irish coffee and Guinness brownies. Plus, there will be a real, live leprechaun (OK, probably just a regular-sized person in green suspenders) selling flowers in the street. For details, see westonmo.com.
