Soccer and patriotism

Football and soccer each has its Glenn Warner. Football's Warner, better known as "Pop," was a successful college coach who helped popularize youth football. Soccer's Warner coached at Navy for 30 years, guiding the midshipmen to several NCAA tournaments and the 1964 national championship. Of course, intercollegiate sports are only part of what happens at the country's service academies. To that end, the Kansas City Wizards invite fans to appreciate the military at tonight's 8 p.m. game. The festivities include cheap ($3) beer and fireworks. The defensively stout Houston Dynamo provides the competition at CommunityAmerica Ballpark (1800 Village West Parkway). Call 913-387-3400. —David Martin
