Songs Live On

It's been more than 12 years since gifted singer Jeff Buckley died, but his legend continues to grow. Recent Buckley references in pop culture have included an interpretation of his interpretation of the Leonard Cohen song "Hallelujah" on American Idol and a Scarlett Johansson take on his "Last Goodbye." These two and many more from his too-small catalog — he made just two records — will be performed at 9 tonight as local artists pay tribute to Buckley at Czar Bar (1531 Grand). Songs will be divvied up among Anna Cole and Andrew Kirk (of Lights & Siren), the Belated, and Lawrence songwriter Joe Garvey. The latter has become a hot commodity on the Buckley tribute circuit, having traveled to Austin, Texas, and Paris to perform his swooning versions of Buckley's graceful melodies. Admission is $12. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Charlotte Street Foundation.
