What started out as a solo side project, from metal bands and other pursuits by Jason Molina and his oddly tuned tenor guitar, has grown into one of today's most prolific indie-rock cottage industries. Recorded live for maximum organic rocking, Magnolia is a soulful collection of country-tinged tunes custom-built for a life spent on America's highways. But as potent as its emotional impact can be on disc, it should be exponentially more so in person when Molina takes a nightly respite from his tireless trek.
