When frog noises, a multi-perspective video about an eclipse and a famous cellist playing a 220-year-old instrument all converge in one place, the result is either a cacophonous disaster or a delight for the senses. Count on the latter at ArtSounds most recent inter-art mash-up, calledIntermedia. From 7:30 to 8:30 tonight, in the Epperson Auditorium in Vanderslice Hall (4415 Warwick), cellist and electronic musician Madeleine Shapiro will accompany art videos depicting natural scenery and phenomena. There will be five different short videos in this collaboration between the Kansas City Art Institute and the UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance, including the Kansas City premiere of E:Tip, which explores angles of perception through video and music. The all-ages show is intended, organizers say, to stimulate and energize — rather than simply soothe — the mind.
