Like the original upscale pizzeria in Leawood, the Lee’s Summit version is done in stark modernist style, with concrete-block walls and cool colors, and makes first-rate hand-tossed designer pizza as well as a handful of baked pasta choices, soups, salads and panini sandwiches. The place isn’t fancy (beverages are served in plastic tumblers), but the food is creative — the spinach-and-garlic pizza or the roasted-vegetable penne, for example — and come to think of it, the pizza is served on pottery trays made by a local artist. — Charles Ferruzza
