Spoon at the Uptown

No matter how big Spoon gets - Saturday Night Live and two bona fide hit singles notwithstanding - the celebrated avant-rock band never seems to jeopardize its street cred. That’s a credit to founding members Britt Daniel and Jim Eno, who utilize a home studio to bake each critically exalted album with new ingredients. Last year’s Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga was the band’s most commercially successful release to date but hardly its catchiest (2001’s Girls Can Tell wins that honor). Audacious experiments like “The Ghost of You Lingers” complimented career-best cuts like “You Got Yr. Cherry Bomb”; further proof that Daniel and Co. (now including former Get Up Kids bassist Rob Pope) have plenty left in the tank.
