Spring Greasing

For the past 60 years, greasers, lowriders, scooterboys and drag racers have all made their marks on Kustom Kulture, the movement that encompasses custom-built cars, fashion and art of the 1950s through today. Celebrate pinstripes, metal-flake paint jobs, bangs and fishnets, Sailor Jerry tattoos and all things rockabilly this weekend when Knuckleheads Saloon (2715 Rochester, 816-483-1456) hosts the second-annual Kansas City Gear Grinder. Much like its sister event, Greaserama (held over Labor Day weekend), KCGG is family-friendly and features pre-1975 hot rods, motorcycles, vendors and lots of PBR. Bands on the outside stage include Utah's Mad Max and the Wild Ones and Detroit's Horse Cave Trio. A limited menu will be available from Knuckleheads' kitchen. A Spectator Weekend Pass is $35 in advance ($50 at the door). Friday only is $20 in advance (or $25 at the door), and doors open at 4 p.m.; a Saturday-only admission is the same, except doors open at noon. Get tickets at knuckleheadskc.com.
