Mudstomp Mondays at The Granada (1020 Massachusetts in Lawrence, 785-842-1390) is turning whats traditionally the sleepiest night of the week into a hootenanny worthy of the Soggy Bottom Boys, and it's liable to induce picking and/or grinning among attendees. With a rotating roster of local bluegrass and Americana bands (with names like TokenGrass and Cowgirls Train Set), its a beer-fueled banjofest that serves as a mini Winfield every week. Heightening the festival atmosphere are glow sticks, women with hula hoops and even the occasional burlesque performance. Crowds often spill out onto the sidewalk, where impromptu jam sessions break out among musicians and washboard-toting audience members. Even passers-by and street performers get in on the action. For those who miss the communal experience of the departed Wakarusa Festival and dont mind swapping noodling guitar solos for upright bass slapping, Mudstomp Mondays is probably as close as you can get. Doors open at 9 p.m., and the cover is $2.
