Street Tricks

Yes, Lawrence is filled with odd inhabitants, but today through Sunday, the city's quirk factor will reach a yearly high. During the weekend-long Lawrence Busker Festival, street performers from around the country will congregate on Lawrence's downtown streets and atop its buildings. We're not just talking singers — you'll also see sword swallowers, fire eaters, magicians, living statues and dancers. And if you feel like learning a few tricks of the trade from the talented vagabond jugglers, mimes and singers, sign up for a Busker Fest workshop. One class and you can be a mime. Who knew? Just look around downtown Lawrence from 6 to 10 p.m. tonight, 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Also, see lawrencebuskerfest.com.
