Studies in Bedazzled Crap

Blinded by star power, a handful of Hollywood types once came together in a perfect storm of bad idea and bad judgment to pitch, green-light and produce the following "high concept": Dolly Parton makes over Sylvester Stallone as a country-western singer. Before anyone could stop them, Rhinestone was forever seared into our collective consciousness. Celebrating cinematic underachieving, the Kansas City, Kansas, Public Library (625 Minnesota Avenue, 913-551-3280) presents its inaugural Festival of Bad Films: The Next Generation of Awful! Screening the first three Thursdays in November and on Tuesday, November 23, the event spotlights stars who never should have been allowed to sing — among them Mario Van Peebles (Rappin'), Lorenzo Lamas (Body Rock) and Clint Eastwood (Any Which Way You Can). Sly and Dolly are the opening act in Rhinestone, at 6 p.m., with shorts and trivia rounding out the festivities. Admission is free. (It would have to be.)
