It may be pigeonholed as an emotional wasteland, but suburbia may surprise urbanites by what it has to offer. When it comes to art, for example, the borders of Kansas City cannot contain the metro area's plurality of expression. From 5 to 9 p.m. tonight, the
Rice Gallery of Fine Art (11535 Ash in Leawood) offers a new exhibit by Seth Smith, Bev Gegen and others. Smith's works deal with the surreal and the colorfully bleak, while Gegen's play with bursts of color and chaos. Smith has exhibited at the Albrecht-Kemper Annual Membership Exhibition and the 2007 Kansas Governor's Inaugural Exhibit, and his work is included in the H&R Block World Headquarters' permanent collection.
