DJ Superwolf has been around the local R&B and soul record-collecting syndicate for some time, spinning the obscure and familiar alike funky hits by legendary Curtis Mayfield and virtually forgotten Gloria Jones, the original crooner of the cloying, much-covered "Tainted Love." (Jones' heartfelt rendition is anything but obnoxious.) Even if you're not a vinylphile like the Wolfman (whose real name is James Trotter), you'll still groove to his sweet vintage beats what's soul music for if not dancing? Plus, Charlie's is one of the coziest dives in midtown; but because the sound system isn't exactly state of the art, expect a lot of clicking and fuzz pumping out of the PA which only adds to the bar's charming retro feel.
