Tears and Laughter

KC comedian Jus Jay must have known something about laughing through the pain. Earlier this summer, the joker performed for a rooftop audience, including R&B star Ginuwine, at The Jones the night before he died from complications related to kidney disease. He was 26. Had he lived, he would have performed with BET Comic View's Lavelle Crawford and Last Comic Standing winner Joe Clair later this month at the Uptown Theater. Instead, his fellow comics are coming together at Phase II Entertainment Center (8625 Troost) to honor him. Laughs for Jus Jay, a benefit for the comedian's memorial fund, is slated to include performances by Coco Brown, Bobby J, Tidy Dillard, spoken-word artist Terrence Ramsey and saxophonist Christopher "C-Note" Nickens. The tribute begins at 8 p.m. Admission costs $10. Call Kaleena James at 816-547-9377 for more information.— Crystal K. Wiebe
