The Beautiful Bodies

“Touch Me (But If Only You Knew How)” by the Beautiful Bodies, from Touch Me (self-released):

The Beautiful Bodies' debut, Touch Me, is an awkward and only occasionally rewarding combination of pale Yeah Yeah Yeahs mimickry and roaring classic rock. It's as if Karen O hijacked Rush before either of the parties were fully formed. Bodies frontwoman Alicia Solo, for all her stage appeal and self-promotional charisma, has only one song in her, and it's the YYY's "Date With the Night." She talk-sings or shrieks repetitively throughout Touch Me, wasting, through lack of ideas, what could be an interesting, dynamic voice. The first three songs — "Osculator" (a direct rip-off of "Date"), "Heart Attack" and "Touch Me (But Only If You Know How)" — find the band struggling not to rip its pants while playing beginner funk riffs over dance-punk beats. In the record's middle section, the band kicks up the speed, distortion and number of changes, and gets some go out of it. The more musically complex songs, such as "Lines of Life" and "Stalker," sound like a riff war between the guitarists from Blue Oyster Cult and the bass player from Yes. Unfortunately, Solo clings to her relentless Karen O-aoke approach start to finish, minus any actual melody. When it comes to writing songs, these Bodies need to start using their heads.

Pint size princess yes.If a song is a ripp off so what it's a ripp off. it not like they be the first to ripp of a song but its the fans that matter. savvy. I enjoy the BB simply because they enjoy playing their music and they are entertainment. i agree with you about them needing to work on their lyrics but they are a local band thats trying and maybe with the new lineup change they can start to do better

I commend you for having the balls that no one else seems to have in this scene to state BB for what it is. Call it jealousy if that appeases the collective ego but the fact remains that KC has been jerking off to this perfunctory pint size princess for long enough. We are all waiting for the silent fall of Miss Solo, thanks again for the first counter attack. This peasant is pleasantly pleased.

A cd review has nothing to do with a band's live performance or it's ability to promote itself, other bands, or the local scene. Ms. Solo's ability to grope herself or dry hump the audience at her shows in no way reflects the bands ability to write or record songs. A knock off is a knock off. Plain and simple. And a critic is a critc. Plain and simple.

beautiful bodies review:

totally cruel and tasteless review of the BBs, a band who has done nothing but encourage and promote other bands in the scene. if you dont like em, fine. no need to be a jerk though. the review was completely excessive. btw, saw them in warrensburg saturday. a wall full of fans singing their songs means they're doing something right.
