The Black Keys

So far this year, few performances rival that of Frank the Dinosaur, who sings "Tighten Up" in the first video from the Black Keys' new album, Brothers. In case you haven't seen it, Frank is a lip-syncing prehistoric puppet, not the band's new third member. The Black Keys still comprise only singer and guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney. Since debuting with 2002's The Big Come Up, the Akron, Ohio, band has expanded its garage-rock-blues flavor to include swirling references to soul, glam, psychedelia and more — all the while, playing really fucking loud. Judging by the duo's success, two dudes are all the Black Keys need; but if the time ever comes to add someone, Frank would be a good choice. After all, there aren't many things a dinosaur puppet can't make more awesome.
