The Brooksider has been serving work-weary happy-hour drinkers, weekend football fans and late-night party people since 1986. Fortunately, the bar-and-grill has been keeping up with the crowds and the times. A makeover has shifted the stage out of the front window, expanded the back bar and added several large HDTVs. The huge back patio stays full in the summer, is covered in the winter for smokers, and remains a great spot for ducking out when you run into that embarrassing hookup from way back when. For better or worse, the bar can feel like a big high school or college reunion at times, but that's the main ingredient in its long-successful recipe for popularity.

Restaurant Details

What once was a low-key, pleasantly low-rent Brookside dive has in the past decade exploded into one of the metro’s liveliest party bars. Thursday through Saturday, the ‘Sider is Jager Bomb City. It’s mellower on most weeknights, a casual neighborhood joint for after-work appetizers, a ballgame and some Golden Tee. The specialty pizzas are better than you’d expect at a bar, but it's all about Taco Tuesday: at this writing, 85 cents a taco. Beyond that, the menu dishes up pierogies, burgers and country-fried steak, and the kitchen stays open until 11 p.m.

There is a group of us ladies that went to Rockhurst years a go that have mostly all just recently moved back to the area. Our hangout was Mikes on Troost and then Hoopers, until we found the downstairs at the Brooksider. The bartender was Nathan, or Nate Dogg. He made the place, he knew everyone's name was always happy to see you and was a master at creating a party atmosphere. He left for awhile for another bar and the place tanked hard. He came back and the party was back and he even turned the basement into a dance club that felt like a keg party. We miss him and would like to know if anyone knows if he is bartending around town or if the Brooksider could bring him back even if it is just for a reunion weekend.
