The Cult

Get out your puffy shirts and nag champa — the Cult has returned. Raven-haired Brit Ian Astbury, who is one of the few men alive who can get away with velvet pants, was last seen as the second coming of Jim Morrison, singing with a revamped Doors. But even though his slithering sexual charisma almost rivaled that of the Lizard King's, it's really best for everyone that he's back fronting the band that brought him fame. With 1980s hits such as "She Sells Sanctuary" and "Fire Woman," Astbury and his ever-revolving Cult married metal with goth, alternative and psychedelia, appealing to all schools of rock. Now, with a new record, Born Into This, the Cult is back in the States, looking to recruit a new generation of devoted followers.
