Van Morrison fans have borne children. They've watched those children become Van fans and then watched as those kids had kids. All the while, the elusive Irishman has stayed away from Kansas City. But sometimes "Into the Mystic" is the only song that'll kink the cord and keep the children coming, and that's where the Dan Doran Band comes in. Doran has spent the Morrison drought mastering Van the Man as well as Kansas City jump blues. Doran's '70s stints in country bands gave way to a vital stretch with Little Hatch and the Houserockers, and he eventually pulled together his own group. His latest version of the Dan Doran Band is the kind of outfit that helps the world remember how spicy a song like "The In Crowd" can be.
