The Devil is in the Details

Given their sometimes elusive natures, there's a certain mystique surrounding comic book creators. Fans assume they're all free-wheelin' beautiful people speeding their Italian sports cars full of movie option cash through the Hollywood Hills. But even when that's true, the best creators never forget their fans.Meet local comic pros today when El Diablo No. 1 creators meet fans and sign autographs at Elite Comics (11842 Quivira Road in Overland Park). Written by metro creator Jai Nitz with art by fellow Midwesterner Phil Hester and resident Kansan Ande Parks, El Diablo No. 1 introduces a kind of drug-dealing neighborhood boss-turned heroic luchadore from Hell to the DC Comics universe (you know, where Superman and Batman live). Nitz is no stranger to the DCU either, having gained national attention for his recent all-Spanish issue of DC's Blue Beetle. Admission, signatures and artist sketches are free at the all-ages signing from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more information call 913-345-9910.
