The Droids You Are Looking For

Some Star Wars collectors have put their children through college because they were savvy enough to have never removed their action figures from the packaging. Then there are guys such as Tim Powell, who went all junior Spielberg on his obsession. Join Powell from 1 to 3:30 p.m. today for "In a Galaxy Far Away," a gallery talk about his decades-long fascination with Star Wars and the empire of merchandise it spawned. The event, presented at the Toy & Miniature Museum of Kansas City (5235 Oak, 816-333-9328), includes a 2 p.m. screening of Mutant Planet, an early '80s sci-fi film (45 minutes long) that Powell and his friends produced on Super 8. Hear Powell discuss the special effects that he created for the film, view some of his rare memorabilia, and maybe find out where he stands in the "Who fired first — Han or Greedo?" debate. The event is free with museum admission. See toyandminiaturemuseum.com for details.
