The Faint has been churning out dystopian robot music since the dawn of electroclash and the R&B vocoder. The group's epileptic beats and magnetic synth-pop hooks have inspired many a disaffected hipster to bust into fits of herky-jerky dancing. The Omaha band's fifth album, Fasciinatiion, is its first self-released effort on the heels of a break from Saddle Creek Records. Todd Fink and company are still obsessed with icy industrial sounds, but they've embraced a circuit-bent sensibility that clutters each track with a hundred blip-bloop permutations. It's still great fun, of course, but you might want to bring some James Taylor for the car ride home.
