Brooklyn's the Forms may have released its debut, Icarus, back in 2003, but the band's low-carb emo aesthetic is a perfect fit for these calorie-conscious times. At a trim, muscled 18 minutes, Icarus delivers the melodic, dynamic nutrition that sweater collectors need to make it through the workday without adding pounds. Soaring-comet guitar choruses, leashed riff-raff tight as a pair of Chinese handcuffs, poly-vocal bungee-jumps -- everything you need is right here, minus the expository fat and gristly filler. That the Forms' live show is as concise as the album seems a given, although the band is polishing a follow-up, which suggests that the set will be longer than Icarus. But if your first serving of the Forms in Lawrence isn't enough to satisfy, see 'em again in Kansas City -- your waistline will thank you.
