The Kennedy Luck Club

Tuesday, May 30, at the Jackpot Saloon.

The Kennedy Luck Club Poor Topeka. The butt of constant jokes, Kansas' capital city frequently loses musicians to its slightly hipper neighbors to the east. But soon, the emigration may slow down — that is, if promising Topeka band the Kennedy Luck Club is any indication. The Club is in contractual discussions with producer Mark Berry, who has worked with David Bowie and Billy Idol. Despite these credentials, the group's sweet, acoustic pop is already solid. Singer C.J. Calhoun is responsible for much of the group's sound; his Ben Folds-y voice sincerely carries the melodies with introspective lyrics (and, we imagine, with closed eyes). This early summer tour stop in Lawrence may just be occasion for your tux — Topeka style, of course (i.e., track suit).
