Formerly called Kenny’s News Room, the plain-old News Room is a real melting pot. Ancient drunks, local hipsters, total weirdos and a sizable Hispanic clientele seem to be the most abundant contingents found here. The small front room is where the bar, newsprint-patterned cocktail tables and surprisingly indie-friendly, eclectic jukebox are found, and the back room has pool tables and darts. This is a 3 a.m. bar, so the good times really get rolling late, though it’s also the perfect pre-party, pre-concert dive.

I was partying for my birthday tonight. My birthday is actually two days from now, however I had just played a gig in the area and was looking for somewhere else interesting to continue my night.
I was carded at the front door, as expected for a club that was still serving past 1:30.
I proceeded to the bar where I was greeted by an unpleasant fat man with a baseball cap and a brooklyn attitude. I asked him a simple question "what is the cheapest beer?" He gave me flak until the point where I began to become uncomfortable. So at that point I was quoted as saying " jesus christ just tell me what the cheapest beer is!" Then instantly he began to hassle me more about whether Id been carded then he demanded me thrown out due to MY lip... I am not a confrontational person by any means and for me to get kicked out of a bar for asking questions that any qualified bartender should know and answer happily is ridiculous I have no facebook or myspace and I am never one to complain but this genuinely irritated me. If he wanted to impress the other heavy women around me, Im sure he could have found a better way to do it. I just wanted to drink a few brews and hang out upstairs and play some pool or something! The bouncer did escort us out. However if it were up to him im sure hed have a shot or two at that sweaty disgusting excuse for a bartender. He was friendly and I told him he needed a raise. If im the one being kicked out they are just creating issues for themselves.
I have heard some great music there and I hate to say it but I have had other problems there. It COULD be a great venue however. they just need to pull the weeds.

Will never go there again!

Bartender took my debit card and said he'd open a tab. Later, he claimed I'd never given him one and had no tab.

When I tried to talk to him about it, he got pissy and accused me of yelling at him b/c I was too drunk...I'd had half of one drink, and was not yelling at all.

I paid for two more drinks with my other card, and tipped him extra to try to smooth things over.

I WAS CHARGED $31 FOR TWO DRINKS (bottom shelf) on the card he claimed he didn't have!!!

I didn't authorize payment, didn't sign anything, didn't tip anything, and reported the card lost that night, and yet SOMEHOW a mysterious disappearing tab that was supposed to be $11 became $31 on a card I never got back!

That required a forged signature!

$20 of bank fraud is still bank fraud! NEVER trust a crook to pour your drinks!

Fuck that place.
