Kansas City's oldest drinking establishment, the Peanut, has been serving the sauce since the repeal of Prohibition in 1933 as well as occupying the same building on the corner of 50th Street and Main. The small, slightly crammed bar serves up its famous wings and BLTs to a steady crowd of businesspeople, college kids and South Plaza denizens seven days a week. First-timers to the bar might be turned off by its aroma and rather surly service, but if they give the Peanut a chance, they’re likely to find out why this is one of KC's most beloved bars.

Restaurant Details

If there’s a better reason to go to the Peanut than the holy combination of hot wings and beer, it could only be the strong pours and dive-bar prices. This mecca of no-frills casual offers the spiciest (and arguably the tastiest) wing sauce in town, so go ahead and hunker down and order the hot stuff alongside your favorite draft. Don’t forget the napkins. The menu also features fried mushrooms, chili-cheese fries and burgers with portions big enough to share.
