The downtown location of one of KC's oldest bars draws in patrons with the promise of satisfaction from gigantic chicken wings, BLTs and cold beer. Just off of Broadway, the friendly, no-frills dive gets a good mix of white-collar workers, loft dwellers and occasionally, day laborers. Once a popular spot for local aspiring rappers, the Peanut has since shut down its Sunday night "Hip Hop and Hot Wings" and put the focus on food and football games. Open until 1:30 a.m., the Peanut is definitely casual, neighborhoody and a good pick for happy-hour office gatherings.

Restaurant Details

If there’s a better reason to go to the Peanut than the holy combination of hot wings and beer, it could only be the strong pours and dive-bar prices. This mecca of no-frills casual offers the spiciest (and arguably the tastiest) wing sauce in town, so go ahead and hunker down and order the hot stuff alongside your favorite draft. Don’t forget the napkins. The menu also features fried mushrooms, chili-cheese fries and burgers with portions big enough to share.

The Peanut is the BEST restaurant in Kansas City!!! Cheap prices, great food, fun atmosphere. I would never order a tuna sandwich here, first mistake lady. BLTs and hot wings is where its at and of course a pitcher of Bud light :-) Drooling thinking about all the memories of that restaurant.

By far our worst Kansas City restaurant experience. Period. I ordered the Tuna salad sandwich on "toasted wheat." Simply put, the sandwich was soggy when it arrived, and they just slapped on cold shredded cheese. I would have been fine to just say "I didn't care for their version of the tuna salad," until the waitress first took offense that I said I didn't care for it. Then she brought the check, and demanded that I still pay for the sandwich, which I did not eat. I was dumbfounded, as this was the first restaurant EVER that I've been too that was requiring me to pay for an item we neither enjoyed nor ate. I would have ordered something in place, but was not given a chance. Unfortunately, this was a terribly bad experience for my wife and I to have on her lunch break.
