The Spook Lights

The Spook Lights When Lawrence band the Donkey Show (not to be confused with the KC-based variety show) played its final concert last year, everyone knew ballistic, nearly nude frontman Scary Manilow wouldn't stray from the mic for long. After almost a year of searching with his best gal and guitar player, Curvacia Vavoom, by his side, he rounded up drummer Deathro Tull (formerly of Ike Turner Overdrive) and ex-Donkey Show axman Jet Boy. Rather than return to the trash-punk sound of the Donkey Show, the newly formed Spook Lights combined the band members' love of kitsch and horror films with a psychobilly sensibility. Taking a cue from the Cramps, the group blends dueling guitars, surf elements, rockabilly and theatricality to create something creative, filthy (in a John Waters way) and fun.
