This urban dining room and beer garden opened with the most potential of any restaurant in 2009. But the inconsistent food and erratic service make it one of the more difficult venues to love unconditionally. Its beautifully designed, with shiny hardwood floors, exposed brick walls, and an interesting selection of works by local artists. When the food and service are on the money, the Westside Local is intoxicatingly delightful, beginning with the starters, which include versions of saloon standards like deviled eggs drizzled with a citrus vinaigrette, a charcuterie plate, and sardines and pickles. Dinners are imaginative and quite good, particularly when theres a strong hand in the kitchen. — Charles Ferruzza
